Description
For a woman living in the Tekro, the day is incredibly long. She is responsible for running her household, which includes preparing meals, cleaning, washing clothes, and raising children, while simultaneously having to earn a daily wage through various odd jobs, which include rag picking, selling vegetables or toys, and cleaning homes. Her husband, very often, has alcohol and tobacco addiction, and the woman becomes the sole supporter of her household. Much of her money is taken from her to feed her husband's addictions. In other cases, large sums of her finances are spent in weddings, funerals, and other ceremonies to show status within the community, causing the entire family's financial support to dwindle if not go into an often-unbreakable cycle of debt. Burdened with a multitude of tasks, these women are directly responsible for the development of their communities as they must support, care for, and help to educate the next generation. Recognizing the immense significance of empowering these women, Manav Sadhna supports them by supporting their children, families, and households through different projects and providing them with a platform to come together to learn about and speak out for their well-being and for the well-being of their families.
